David is an early career educator with a range of formal and informal teaching experience in New York City, Spain, and North Carolina. Originally from Charlotte, NC, he is driven by an understanding of the inequities in our school systems and a sense of accountability to his neighbors and community. His previous professional affiliations include the New York City Public Schools, the environmental education team at the Hudson River Park, and the Durham-based organization Student U. He believes strongly that reading and literacy instruction are vital in activating students' capacities for empathy, reflection, and action.
David holds a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and Spanish from Duke University, as well as 7-12 Social Studies Teaching Licensure in both New York and North Carolina. As a recent arrival to Philadelphia, he looks forward to building joyful partnerships and successful readers through his work at Achieve Now.
